This International Women’s Day, Barrier Reef Pools Perth joined SPASA Australia’s national WAVES (Women Advocating, Voicing, Empowering, and Supporting) events to celebrate and champion the women shaping our industry. General Manager Gina Nicholson and members of the Barrier Reef Pools Perth team participated in the Western Australia event, joining industry colleagues from across the country in recognising the contributions women make to construction and the pool and spa sector every day.

SPASA WAVES: Celebrating Women Across the Pool and Spa Industry

SPASA Australia’s WAVES events brought members together simultaneously across multiple states, creating a powerful, unified celebration of International Women’s Day within our industry. From Queensland to Western Australia, industry professionals gathered to connect, share their journeys, and reflect on the progress being made for women in construction and the pool and spa sector.

A central theme of the WAVES events was raising support for Dress for Success, a global not-for-profit dedicated to empowering women to achieve economic independence. Attendees across Australia contributed to the #GiveToGain initiative, a fitting reflection of the values at the heart of these events.

Barrier Reef Pools Proudly Hosted the Queensland SPASA WAVES Event

In Queensland, the SPASA WAVES International Women’s Day event was proudly hosted by Barrier Reef Pools. The event brought together industry professionals for a morning of connection, insight, and community, with attendees hearing valuable perspectives from Cassandra Horan, President of the NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) Queensland Chapter.

Her address covered the importance of advocacy, mentorship, and community in driving lasting change for women in construction, both in Queensland and nationally. It was a strong reminder of what the industry can achieve when it comes together with a shared purpose.

In Western Australia, Barrier Reef Pools Perth General Manager Gina Nicholson and members of our team took part in the SPASA WAVES event alongside fellow industry professionals. Their involvement reflects a genuine commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the advancement of women in construction and the pool and spa sector.

Having a female General Manager at the helm of one of Perth’s most respected pool companies means a great deal to us. Gina’s leadership reflects the strength, expertise, and vision that women bring to the construction industry, and her involvement in events like SPASA WAVES is a natural extension of the culture she continues to build within our team.

Our Commitment to Women in Construction

At Barrier Reef Pools Perth, we believe a stronger, more inclusive industry benefits everyone. Supporting initiatives like SPASA WAVES and NAWIC goes beyond marking a date on the calendar. It’s about contributing to meaningful, long-term change for women working in construction and the trades across Western Australia and nationally.

It’s encouraging to be part of an industry making genuine strides in recognising and elevating the women within it. We look forward to continuing to support these initiatives throughout 2026 and beyond, and to helping build a pool and spa industry that reflects the full diversity of the communities we serve.
