Owning a pool or spa carries responsibilities for the safety of those using it.
Which set of regulations will apply to a given pool or spa will depend on its date of installation.
Make Safety a Priority: Pool Supervision is easier when planned in advance. While a fence or barrier provides a physical obstacle, helping to keep children out, there are other measures, which can be taken to increase safety in and around your pool. If you buy a pool from Barrier Reef Pools, you will be comfortable in the knowledge that our pools have a built-in child safety ledge too.
Pools and spas with a building licence application lodged with a local council after November 5th, 2001 are required to have a barrier which complies with Australian Standard AS1926.1 1993, installed between the pool or spa and any door from the house which would otherwise give direct access from the house to that pool or spa. The wall of the house can form part of the barrier, provided any opening windows are protected by properly installed security screens or window opening restricted to a maximum of 100mm. (key looking devices are not acceptable). For the most up to date regulations, please speak to your local council.
