Mosaic Tiles Elegant Touch
When you have three teenage girls, creating an outdoor area that is perfect for parties, entertaining and long summer days spent by the pool makes a lot of sense — and the owners of this new home have done so in style.
Owners Michele and Matthew Ingoe designed and built their two-storey house in Aubin Grove to be perfect for themselves and their girls, aged 13, 15 and 17, and the dog.
The family loves that beyond their block is bushland — in the morning’s birdsong fills the air and they frequently spy wedge- tailed eagles and owls. Backing on to bushland also gives their garden a feeling of privacy.
Mr Ingoe said they bought their 600sqm partly for its generous size so they could have a decent-sized outdoor area with space for different entertaining areas, a lawn, a vegetable garden and a pool. “
A lot of people are tending to downsize but we went the other way,” he said. The home’s open-plan kitchen, living and dining area opens up on to a covered alfresco area that overlooks the pool, lawn and two paved areas. The Ingoes wanted a variety of alfresco areas so that they could entertain large numbers of people at once, with options for separation if desired.
Mrs Ingoe said they loved the unusual shape of the Barrier Reef Pools design they chose, which features tiered ledges for seating along one length and two shallow, pond-like water features along one side. “The water features are my favourite aspect of the garden, the sound is so relaxing and they’re beautiful and functional,” she said. Mr Ingoe finished and tiled the water features himself, laying iridescent mosaic tiles that give an elegant look. Three frangipanis were planted along this length of the pool and will eventually grow tall enough to bow over the water, giving a resort-like feel.
Mrs Ingoe said they were thrilled with how the pool turned out and the work of Barrier Reef Pools. “Barrier Reef were awesome — They did a really good job and were really helpful,” she said. The Ingoes said they were lucky to also have had a great building experience, inside and out, and praised the work of Lorimer Homes, which built their spacious, modern home, and Fremantle Stone, the company they chose to lay the granite pavers in the garden.
